Effects of Nerve Stimulation on the Isolated Nerve-Stomach Preparation of the Tortoise

Abstract
The nerve stimulation of the isolated nerve-stomach preparation of the tortoise produced only an excitatory effect. Pretreatment of the Preparation with atropine or hexamethonium inhibited the excitatory ,effect of the nerve stimulation, but did not induce an inhibitory effect as seen in the stomach of the warm-blooded animals. Norepinephrine, which usually caused relaxation of the stomach of the warm-blooded animals, did not produce an inhibitory effect. Acetylcholine, DMPP and 5-HT caused contraction of the isolated stomach of the tortoise.
